15. Nathaniel PETTIT
was born in 1646 in Exiter, New Hampshire. He died in 1714 in Hopewell,
Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Nathaniel PETTIT purchased 800 acres at the falls
of the Delaware, comprising ground which the New Jersey State Capitol at Trenton
now stands. He moved from the falls of the Delaware probably around 1692. This
area was called "Little worth". Nathaniel's will was dated 1714.
As a Quaker, Nathaniel Pettit refused to take the Oath of Allegiance on September
13, 1673. This is the first record of the "Pettit" name with the Society
of Friends (Quakers).
Mary BAILEY (daughter of
Elias BAILEY and Sarah UNKNOWN) was born in Newtown,
Long Island, New York. Nathaniel PETTIT and Mary BAILEY had the following children:
