FOURTH GENERATION

26. Thomas III PETTIT was born on 4 Nov 1673 in Newtown, Long Island, New York. Thomas III, must have been between 35 to 45 when James was born this would place his date of birth between 1680 & 1690. Thomas "the imagrant" came to Long Island from Exiter with five sons Thomas 2nd, John, Moses, Nathaniel and Joseph. Thomas John & Nathanial appear on the Hempstead, Long Island tax list for 1675. The other two sons appear on the list in 1683. Moses and Joseph were probably too young in 1675 to appear on the 1675 list and should be eleminated as our ancestors. Nathanial left Long Island around 1690 so he and his children may be eliminated. This then leaves John & Thomas 2nd. as the logical choices.
